Robbie Nairn
Robbie Nairn, a Bay of Plenty-based artist, creates sculptural works that celebrate local fauna and the natural beauty of native wood. His native bird series features avian forms elegantly emerging from timber, often sourced from salvaged wood, colonial buildings, or driftwood. Each piece's provenance—its cracks, scars, and blemishes—guides the final form, blending old, weathered textures with smooth, polished curves. Robbie's minimalist sculptures capture the dynamic essence of each bird, from graceful to stoic. Growing up surrounded by nature in beachside New Zealand, he has been deeply influenced by his environment and exhibits his work in select galleries across the country.
