Giora Dan
Giora Dan arrived in Aotearoa in 1997 for love and set about building a new life. A passionate traveller with a deep interest in people, he spent two decades as a freelance photographer, with his social documentary work featured in publications like The Smithsonian and New Zealand Geographic. His commitment to social justice saw him contribute to UNESCO, Save the Children, and Fair Trade. When Covid struck, Giora transitioned into woodworking, establishing BurntWood, a creative studio. Using sustainably sourced and often recycled materials, he handcrafts pieces inspired by Aotearoa's landscapes, using natural oils and water-based glues to enhance the beauty of the wood. His work reflects a blend of artistry, craftsmanship, and sustainability.
